ATENA: A Distributed Name Guide Server in Electronic Mail System
نویسندگان
چکیده
ATENA (A Telephone and Electronic-mail NAme guide system) is a distributed name guide system designed for developing a prototype of new E-mail system. The prototype system is based on CCITT X.500 standard. The goal of ATENA is to provide users with efficient name guide services and to experimentally find ways for constructing integrated network database system. We have provided a model of developing distributed database system and implemented ATENA as a prototype in the environment of UNIX* workstations. The rules which are the foundations of the matching algorithm have been derived to interactively find the true network mail address from ambiguous keys inputed by a user. We also have done the performance evaluations of ATENA with experiments in order to give users an object view of the system.

Discrete Time Analysis of Multi-Server Queueing System with Multiple Working Vacations and Reneging of Customers
This paper analyzes a discrete-time $Geo/Geo/c$ queueing system with multiple working vacations and reneging in which customers arrive according to a geometric process. As soon as the system gets empty, the servers go to a working vacations all together. The service times during regular busy period, working vacation period and vacation times are assumed to be geometrically distributed. Customer...
متن کاملWorking Vacation Queue with Second Optional Service and Unreliable Server
An M/M/1 queueing system with second optional service and unreliable server is studied. We consider that the server works at different rate rather than being idle during the vacation period. The customers arrive to the system according to Poisson process with state dependent rates depending upon the server’s status. All customers demand the first essential service whereas only some of them dema...
متن کاملOperating Systems Support for Busy Internet Servers
The Internet has experienced exponential growth in the use of the World-Wide Web, and rapid growth in the use of other Internet services such as VSENET news and electronic mail. These applications qualitatively differ from other network applications in the stresses they impose on busy server systems. Unlike traditional distributed systems, Internet servers must cope with huge user communities, ...
متن کاملPYXIS: A Name Server for Distributed Environments
This paper describes the PYXIS, a versatile name server for distributed environments, which maps object names into ids (independently of their location). This server dynamically supports global or local name spaces, according to system requirements. The server incorporates an authentication engine that, after checking a request, supplies the client with an authentication key. Such a key can be ...
متن کاملHLFSD: Delivering Email to Your $HOME
We consider the problem of enabling users to access their mailbox files from any host on our local network, and not only on one designated ‘‘home machine’’. We require a solution which will not introduce any new single points of failure, force us to modify mail transfer agents and user agents, or require changes to the operating system kernels. In other words, minimize the amount of work needed...
